Aside from offering different types of group therapy, Discovery Recovery also provides various types of one-on-one therapy within the facility. One is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an individualized treatment plan (or one-on-one therapy plan) where a client talks to a trained professional to identify negative behaviors or thoughts they might have that contributes to their condition. CBT’s goal is to identify the problem, find a solution, and improve their quality of life.

During a CBT treatment, the therapist and client need to trust each other. Their dynamic dictates the success of the therapy. Positive communication is key in replacing the current dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors with positive ones. During their conversation, both should create a plan of action for the client to overcome negative behavior.

This type of therapy puts the client in control of their recovery. They are not relying on other people to do it for them. Instead, they are given the power to overcome their current condition. Some of the simple tasks that can empower clients involve allowing them to read more about their condition, create and maintain a schedule of appointments, and do assignments given to him/her by the therapist. The goal of an assignment is for the client to apply whatever they learned from therapy to their everyday life.

Our CBT treatments are short-term, often lasting ten to twenty sessions. However, the duration of each therapy session depends mostly on the diagnosis, levels of stress, other symptoms, and feedback on whether improvements have been observed.

If you are interested in our CBT treatments or know somebody who will benefit from CBT, give us a call. We have operators on standby ready to answer your questions.
