Some people may find it odd that many treatment programs have a “young adult” track. But from ages 18 to 26, young adults are dealing with an intense, disruptive transitional period in their life. During this time, most young adults move from living with their parents to living on their own.
At same time, the brain goes through natural structural changes. These changes affect how young adults make decisions. This is especially stressful as young adults face many new responsibilities, like paying rent and planning meals. They may be enrolled in college or making the next big step forward with a job search and a new career. These pressures can result in a sense of desperation, a feeling of being “caught” that young adults might self-medicate with substances.
At Discover Recovery, young adults will stay with the general group in treatment for detox through residential treatment. They’ll also be using the same comfortable housing. But our staff can tailor therapy and group exercises towards concerns that are present in a young adult’s life.
